Auto-organize gives you a head start on sorting a shoot. Choose the sets you want, and Fotarie moves photos that clearly fit into them. Photos that are harder to place stay in Uncategorized for you to sort.
Before you start
- Upload your photos and wait for them to finish processing. Auto-organize works with ready photos in Uncategorized; photos already in a set stay where they are.
- Auto-organize is included on Basic, Plus, and Pro. Free includes one run for your studio, shared across all galleries.
- Only photos are sorted. Videos are not included.
Choose your sets and start sorting
- Open your gallery on the Photos tab and select Auto-organize.
- Use Start with a preset to choose Wedding, Family, or Events, or build your own list. Wedding includes sets such as Getting Ready, Ceremony, Couple Portraits, and Reception.
- Select Edit beside a set to adjust it. Under Save photos to, choose an existing set or New set and enter a Set name. Presets reuse an existing set when its name matches.
- Add an optional Description to explain what belongs in the set. For example, “Posed photos with family members” helps distinguish Family Portraits from candid reception photos. Select Done when you finish editing.
- Use Add target set to include another set, or the remove icon to take one out of the list. Choose between 1 and 30 sets, with a different name for each new set.
- Select Organize photos. New sets are created and sorting begins.
Photos move as soon as a clear match is found, without a separate approval step. You can move them yourself afterward if you prefer a different set.
Follow progress and review the results
The progress banner shows how many photos have been processed, and the gallery updates as photos move. You can leave the gallery and come back, or reload the page, to see the latest progress.
- Assigned: photos moved into one of your chosen sets.
- Uncertain: photos without a clear match, left in Uncategorized.
- Failed: photos that could not be sorted, also left in Uncategorized.
- Skipped: photos that could no longer be moved, for example because you had already moved or deleted them, or removed their destination set.
Select Uncategorized in the banner to review what is left. Select photos and use Move to set to file them yourself. Check the organized sets too, and move any photos you would place differently.
If sorting is interrupted, unfinished work can recover automatically. On a paid plan, select Resume when it is available to continue unfinished work using the same sets. Resume keeps the photos already sorted in place; it does not give failed photos another pass. Sort any failed photos manually.
If Auto-organize is disabled
If your studio has used its free run, hover over or focus Auto-organize to see the upgrade prompt. The organization owner can follow Upgrade to Basic to the Billing page; team members should ask their owner to upgrade. The free run is used when sorting starts, even if no photos find a clear match or sorting later stops.
Otherwise, check that there are ready photos in Uncategorized and that another run is not already in progress. Hover over or focus the button for more information. If Auto-organize is currently unavailable, you can still sort photos manually.
Photos uploaded after sorting starts are not added to that run. Once it finishes, start another run to organize newly uploaded photos. Further runs require Basic or above after your studio has used its free run.
